Facebook reminded me the other day that it’s now 5 years since my very first race, the Run to the Beat half marathon. That means I’ve been a runner for 5.5 years.
Seems like forever. Makes me think what the heck did I do with my life beforehand?
Wait, but I do know what I did – I had a (crazy non-sleeping) baby, a miscarriage, some fertility treatment, another baby and PND.
Thank god that part of my life is over and done with.
I will forever be grateful for my husband who signed me up for that half marathon not believing me when I said that I couldn’t run.
I totally could. And I did and 5 years later I have raced:
- Four 5kms
- Twelve 10kms
- Two 15kms
- Eleven half marathons
- Three marathons
I have brought my 5km time down from 25:57 to 21:04, my 10k time down from 51:47 to 47:11, my half marathon time down from 1:53:51 to 1:44:26 and I’ve run two 3:56 marathons and one 4:10 marathon.
I love pushing my speed and am unable to race ‘just for fun’ (meaning – without looking at my watch). Sometimes I think I should sign up for more races to learn to just race for fun but then I think of all the money and I figure I just train for fun and when it comes to racing – I’ll RACE so it hurts :)
On Sunday I’ll be running the Ealing Half Marathon. I will of course try to beat my PB of 1:44:26. It’s not a given since that is already a very fast pace for me, but I will give it all I’ve got and see what happens.
