It’s September soon and the kids will head back to school. I figured I needed something new in my life as well and I’ve signed up to the Whole Life Challenge. I will be playing as part of my Crossfit box’s team and I’m scared. Just a little :), and mostly in a good way.
The Whole Life Challenge is described as “the 56-day online game that allows you to affect lasting change in your life”. There are 7 areas of your life that you need to focus on and you get points for each of them for each day. The seven are:
Eat by the WLC rules you choose at the level that is right for you.
Exercise for at least 10 minutes each day. We recommend 3-5 “workouts” each week. The other days you’ll earn your points by being active.
Stretch for at least 10 minutes each day.
Drink one third of your body weight in oz. of water each day (20 ml per kg).
Supplement with a dietary supplement that would make a difference for your body if you took it every day. (I will take fish oil)
Live the WLC weekly lifestyle practice – things like sleep, meditate, & supporting others. You earn 1 point each day you complete the weekly lifestyle task. (I am not sure what this means, I guess I’ll find out when the thing kicks off)
Reflect at the end of each day and check in with how it went and how you’re doing.
Sounds kind of doable but kind of overwhelming as well, especially since I chose the strictest food rules to play by. I’m allowed to have sweet potatoes, meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, stevia, kombucha, water, coffee, tea, butter and that’s about it.
So why am I doing it???
I’m doing it because it’s a new game to play and I like logging stuff online and getting points and stuff. :D
I’m also doing it because I’ve never eaten so strictly paleo before and I want to see if it clears up my skin. My skin is still giving me a lot of grief and I want to see if this has an impact.
A part of me is also curious to see what it does to my body. I’ve always said I am the size and shape that I am and that will never change. I’m totally ok with that most of the time but part of me is also quietly wondering that maybe I haven’t reached my maximum potential yet, maybe there IS another level to my fitness. At the end of September I will have done Crossfit for 2 years. I’m thinking that maybe this challenge could be something that takes my Crossfit and my general health&fitness (including mental health) journey to the next level.
So on 13th of September it all starts with a baseline workout and a body fat measurement. I’m scared but I’m excited and I’m ready to play.
Have any of you done the WLC?
