It’s been 8 days since I ran my second marathon. As much as it was such a tough run I’m amazed that I did not feel sore at all afterwards. Yesterday I went for a short 6.5km run and whereas the legs felt a little stiff to begin with, they loosened up after a few km and felt good.
In a way I still feel like I totally blew Paris. That I could have / should have run faster. But my rational brain tells me I cannot compare running a marathon in 10°C to running a marathon in 20°C. So I will not moan on and on about this and will move on :)
We spent the next 4 days after the marathon exploring Paris. The kids and my mother had never been there so there was plenty to see.
The city is not extremely child friendly – the playgrounds seem to be only in the touristy areas and none in the suburbs at all. But in the end we found plenty to do and made good use of the metro.
We had some great weather and the kids even put up with a few hours in the Louvre. Their favourite activity however was walking through the catacombs under the city. I was totally creeped out :|
The locals were very friendly and often offered directions, candy for the kids or just stopped us for a chat. I did not feel awkward at all that I don’t speak French. It’s the first time I’ve felt that way while in Paris, maybe because the metro system is finally starting to make sense and I’m starting to feel just more comfortable with that city in general.
I ate all the things that week that do not agree with my skin nor my digestion. After a week of pre-marathon strict diet of mainly sweet potatoes and plain rice, I totally went overboard. Weirdly I wasn’t extremely bloated by the end of the holidays, just about 4 months pregnant looking instead of the 6 that can sometimes happen :|
I’ve decided that even though it’s great for me to be free from dairy, gluten and sugar, I’m letting chocolate back in my life. Life is just a little bit better when chocolate is in it.
Now off to get ready for my first Crossfit session in 2 weeks. I cannot WAIT, I’ve started to dream about it which usually indicates I’m going through a serious withdrawal and need my fix asap.
