Muddy run on Wednesday on Wimbledon Common

Muddy run on Wednesday on Wimbledon Common

Now let’s talk about something more fun than PND – my first marathon in 2014 is in 6 days! I’m cool, calm and collected. Kind of :)

My calves and shins have actually been really tight and almost painful all week so I’m running very little this week, just two 8km runs, and will be stretching every night.

It is not a nice feeling when your legs below knees are heavy as bricks and you cannot run fast at all. I know it’s all about stretching though, and I have a sports massage booked for Wednesday. Cool & calm. Cool & calm.

My digestion has actually been a little bit dodgy as well though :| so absolutely no sugar, dairy or gluten until after race day (and I totally forgot that I actually had some dark chocolate last night!).

The training went down as follows last week:

  • Monday: Crossfit
  • Tuesday: Crossfit
  • Wednesday: 17.15km at 5:57 pace
  • Thursday: 6.35km at 6.07 pace
  • Friday: Rest
  • Saturday: 10.25km at 5:52 pace
  • Sunday: Bit of bouldering; 6.46km at 5:49 pace

Total: 40.21km

This week I’m running very little so I have time to pack the bags for everyone to head to Paris on Saturday morning – husband, (grand)mother, children and all. I will not run the marathon with MrB hand in hand as I’ve got my pace and he’s got his, but it will be so nice to have someone to hug at the finish line this time. Last year I went to Paris alone and whereas the marathon experience was awesome, being alone when the emotions hit afterwards was not.

So this is almost the end of this year’s marathon training madness (even though I have another one in May). In the end I can say that it has been a pleasure. Who would have thunk it? :)
