Yesterday I went to see a physio to check why my left knee isn’t letting me kneel or sit cross legged. The good news is that nothing is ‘injured’ as such. The bad news is that pretty much all my muscles are tight, my left knee is a bit inflamed because of that and my core and glutes are too weak.
She taped up my knee, which is supposed to help with the inflammation and gave me a series of stretches to do twice a day. No running or CrossFit recommended for this week :(
I usually run on Wednesdays but today I went to a reformer Pilates class instead. It’s Pilates that’s done on one of those machines:
Luckily for me there was only one other person there so the instructor could run me through the basics beforehand and guide me through every movement during class. She commented about all my tight muscles every other second :| I enjoyed the class but it wasn’t a hard workout as such, it didn’t give me that feeling that running or CrossFit gives me. I’m sure most of it is because it was my first class ever and the focus was on form and not on intensity.
So even though it was good to stretch for an hour, I feel a bit glum right now. Running makes my muscles tight, CrossFit makes my muscles tight, twice a week stretching doesn’t seem to help, sports massages don’t seem to help. All of this seems just too difficult right now – running, strength training, stretching, mobility, etc. There are just too many things to do to be ‘fit’ and none of these things are cheap :|
Of course I could just stretch at home… and do push-ups at home… But firstly – my stretching at home doesn’t seem to be effective, so obviously I have no clue as to how to do it properly. AND – I LOVE the running and the CrossFit – I just don’t want it to break my body because I can’t figure out how to stretch and recover properly.
I never thought stretching was so complicated to figure out. I never thought muscles could get so tight and locked. I never thought the more you get into wanting to be ‘well’ from head to toe, the more complicated it gets…
So for now I will do the stretches prescribed by the physio twice a day until next Monday when I see her again. She better tell me then that she’s seeing an improvement. I NEED to know it’s possible to stretch yourself at home without spending all this money on the Pilates…
