Marathon training: Week 2

Snow no more

Whew. Another official marathon training week is behind me. The snow is all gone and temperatures are back in almost double digits (C). I saw someone running in just a sports bra the other day – clearly for them the snow melting means it’s summer straight away! :)

I will never run in a sports bra, not even in the summer, and at the moment it’s definitely still long sleeves and a wind/rain jacket kind of weather. The training this week went as follows:

  • Monday: Rest day
  • Tuesday: CrossFit
  • Wednesday: 15.43km at 5:14 min/km pace, 1:20:46
  • Thursday: CrossFit
  • Friday: 5.25km at 4:41 min/km pace, 24:36
  • Saturday: 11.07km at 4:59 pace, 55.15
  • Sunday: 22.19km at 5:28 pace, 2.01.26

Total: 53.93km

My calves are a bit tight but tomorrow is a rest day and I have a sports massage booked :)  Next week the plan is to take it a bit easier and clock up 40km, I can’t decide though whether to go with a plan that says every 3rd week is easy or the plan that says every 4th week is easy. I think I’ll see how I feel by mid-week and decide then whether I need a 40km week or another 50+km week.

    What a great week! I’m having to go for another swim today (two already this week ) as it’s just too wet and windy outside. I’d be watching out for falling trees along the way. What training program are you following?

      I made up my own training program! Sort of loosely based on what a colleague of mine gave me but since I’m doing CrossFit twice a week I cannot or do not need to run 6 times a week like most marathon training plans dictate.
